Free Style

WILD STYLES is a free exhibition featuring ‘old skool’ Hip Hop photographs from the last 25 years. Timed to coincide with the 25th Anniversary release of classic Hip Hop film, ‘Wild Style’, the exhibition will feature not only photographs, but also music, Breakers and Graffiti art. Wild Styles sees the gallery space collaborating with some of Hip Hop’s grand masters including Normski and Janette Beckman to transport you back to the days of Adidas shell tops and Run DMC.

Fundraising Hull-a-baloo

Hull’s Dove House Hospice is fundraising on Sunday 21 October with RUN 4 FUN, a sponsored 5k family fun run around the city’s West Park. The hospice provides specialist care to adults with life limiting illnesses including HIV/AIDS. On the day Dove House mascot Dulcie Dove will be among the runners, there’ll be a prize for the best fancy dress. Registration takes place at 9.15am at Hull’s Gemtec Arena (minimum £10 sponsorship) which will also be the starting point for the race. Free shower and changing facilities will be available on the day.

Flip Your Wig

Luke Hope, Alan X, Miss Jools and Kris DiAngelis are the superstar DJs lined-up for this year’s annual HIV fundraiser the WIG PARTY. The dance party in aid of Crusaid will take place at London’s Café de Paris on Sunday 14 October. You must wear a wig on the night, but there’s complimentary Cuervo tequila until 7.30pm to help you shed those inhibitions.

DIVERSITY CELEBRATIONS GO EAST

A new Scottish website has been launched especially for gay and bisexual men living with HIV, their partners, friends and family. CONNECTED SCOTLAND is a place where you find information and advice from questions to ask your doctor to how to live well with HIV. You can connect with other people and share your experiences through the discussion board. The site brought to you by healthy gay Scotland and partners also features a comprehensive directory of support services in Scotland.

Kylie Exhibition hits Glasgay!

Scotland’s annual celebration of gay culture gets underway this month. GLASGAY! Running 12 October-11 November all over Glasgow, the festival features a month-long marathon of comedy, traditional and contemporary dance, nightclubbing, film and art exhibitions. Highlights include the Scottish premiere of Allan Brocka’s comic film ‘Eating Out: Sloppy Seconds 2’ (21 Oct); Rikki Beadle-Blair’s new anti-bullying play ‘Fit’ (23-24 Oct), a rare concert by Brazilian baritone Mauricio Virgens (19 Oct); not forgetting The Kylie Exhibition (22 Sept-13 Jan), which boasts 200 objects, costumes and photographs including costumes from the Showgirl Tour.

Chelsea harbours fundraiser

There’s a special fundraising event being held for members of London’s Chelsea Harbour Club on Friday 02 November. It is to raise funds and awareness for the HIV project at Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Concern Worldwide. The event will feature a ball, raffles and an auction and launches the photo exhibition ‘Positive Lives’. It’s a unique international project that documents the impact of HIV & AIDS around the world, in particular, showing positive human responses to the crisis. The exhibition is open to members and their guests.

Da bomb

Manchester’s PINK BOMB is a night of gay performance to raise money for Iraqi LGBT, a group that supports the persecuted gay community in Iraq. Iraqi LGBT’s work has included paying for HIV treatments and hiding people from death squads. The night boasts comedy, live music and drag from acts including Chloe Poems, Joe Hateley, Bethney Black, Ste McCabe and Faby Licious, plus an aftershow dance party.

You shall go to the ball

Don your disguise this month for THE MASKED BALL in aid of UNICEF. Taking place at London’s glamorous Park Lane Hotel on Friday 26 October all profits will be donated to Unite For Children’s ‘Unite Against AIDS’ campaign. The fundraising ball will include a glittering champagne reception, three course dinner, prize tombola, an auction, cabaret entertainment and the opportunity to swing your pants to a live big band.

OUT25+ is a new social group for Gay men and lesbians aged over 25 who live or work in Wakefield and the surrounding areas. The group, which launched in September, is aimed at single people or couples who just want to meet new people and join in social events like eating out, bowling or theatre and cinema trips.
