After several failed attempts to stop smoking, Ian Thomas tried a Auricular Therapy and (fingers crossed!) has been off the nicotine wagon ever since.
month ago. I decided to finally try and stop smoking. I’ve wanted to stop for ages but the time was never right - although there is never a good time to stop. Darren in my office suggested I go and see his friend Tony Bruno at the Tanning Shop in Vauxhall where they have got this wonderful new machine called a R.I.S.E. (Reflection Instrument Scanning Electro-pulse). The deal was if I could stop for a month I would write about my experience in Positive Nation. And if it worked, tell you all about it. Well it works. I’ve stopped and it’s been painless. I’ve not been tempted once. My sense of taste has even come back! But more importantly I’ve stayed sane... My problem has been in the past that when I stopped smoking everyone in my office knew about it. They’d end up forcing cigarettes into my mouth!
I Quit Smoking’s R.I.S.E. technology was developed as a result of the company’s commitment to creating a quick, natural and pain-free program. The IQS system takes approximately 1 hour and is administered by an IQS-trained therapist. The therapy is basically about the release of more endorphins which make you feel good.
It’s based on the principles of Reflexology, a practice which uses pressure point massage to stimulate energy flow throughout the body. This process, when applied to the ear, is called Auricular Therapy.
The process begins with a 20 minute consultation process, which takes place at a local IQS centre and is conducted by a trained IQS therapist. The purpose of the consultation is to create an “Individual Smoking Profile” based on your lifestyle and smoking habits. This profile will then be loaded onto your own personal IQS Card and used to conduct the IQS treatment.
The treatment is also conducted by a trained IQS therapist and begins with the therapist applying the RISE device gently over the outer ear. The treatment is then underway and lasts for a further 30-60 minutes. During the treatment the RISE device will deliver a series of gentle pulses, focused on reflexology points around the outer ear. You may feel a warming sensation around the ear.
After the treatment is completed you may have a sensation of well being and of feeling uplifted and being refreshed.
You will then be provided with your post treatment interview, where the next steps in the process will be explained. Your therapist will be able to provide some useful advice for the coming weeks and will brief you on the kind of things you can expect to experience. You will be advised to drink plenty of water and to avoid drinking coffee or alcohol for at least one week.
You will be given your IQS Card which has stored your “Individual Smoking Profile” to take away. This card can then be used up to four times in a six month period to administer your tailored IQS treatment should you need it. If you do have a relapse, you must make a new appointment with your IQS centre as soon as possible as your treatment will need to be repeated.
Fortunately, I feel great and have not had to go back. This should honestly, in my view, be available free on the NHS. It’s much better than those patches which just put nicotine directly into the body. This system also works. Mention Positive Nation when you call and they will give you a discount. +
