Trinidad's disappointed delegates

Although the 10th International Conference for People with HIV/Aids was a great success (see article), and was the first ever staged in the Caribbean, 51 of the 600 delegates were left behind disappointed and angry when financial problems forced the short-notice cancellation of scholarships enabling a free or subsidised place.
A letter sent by the conference organisers said: "It is with heavy hearts that we must withdraw our offer of a scholarship."
It continued: "The reasons are many and complicated...changing visa requirements

in the light of the September 11th attacks, communication lags, and a failure by key international funders to provide resources."
