group is at risk from HIV, preachers are indirectly assuring people that might not see themselves in that group, that they are immune. This false sense of security, in turn, encourages even more risky behaviour. This could have grave consequences.
The only risk-free practice is abstinence. Like pastor Ade, we'd also like to think that monogamy - where it is known that both parties are HIV negative - also eliminates risk. But how realistic an expectation is this nowadays?
So what we are left with are risk minimisation measures and whether we like it or not, - and whether we are married or not - these are either non-penetrative sex, or proper condom use. Difficult choices but we have no choice but to make them.
I wonder what Pastor Ade's sermons say now?
