"I admit that the picture painted with no stars didn't look good. Whether it was just a snap shot or too many old ladies on trolleys I don't know. But there are incontrovertibly good things here - the Lawson Unit is excellent and the patients' representation is fairly unique and definitely not tokenistic."
Why does he do it?
"I believe in it. I'm a bit of an old radical and I think it makes a difference. It's easy to be cynical and say it's just window dressing but it means something to me, the people I help as well as to the doctors and the trust. Occasionally we even get praise, especially when people realise our doctors treat the patient and not just the illness."
