HUMAN BEHAVIOUR

Jimmy Paulette on David's bike, NYC 1991

Visit London's Whitechapel Gallery for a taste of Nan Goldin's edgy glamour.
'Devil's Playground' is an exhibition of old and new work by Nan Goldin, the photographer who often gets the blame for inventing 'heroin chic'.
At 18, Goldin got heavily into drugs and taking pictures of her new 'family' and friends - the drag queens with whom she shared a flat in New York. She has used the camera ever since to record what she calls her 'intimate visual diary' of friends, lovers, good times, bad times.
The images in 'Devil's Playground' are thematically arranged - landscapes, babies, sex, love. Over 300 pieces are included.
Her newer work concentrates on rural and urbanscapes. Interiors, skies, light and

dark, churches. Images empty of people.
Upstairs is older work: photographs that deal with Aids. Emotional snapshots
