creations that are Marilyn, Philip Sallon, Steve Strange, Boy George
and especially performance artist Leigh Bowery were always meant for the
stage.
Although there is a boy-meets-girl story at the heart of the show, as
the young Billy (played by Luke Evans) abandons Bromley for the bright
lights of the West End, the real stars of the show are the denizensof
the 80s club world. ANd the death of Bowery from an AIDS-

|
related illnessin 1994 brings a darker, more poignant aspect to the spectacle.
Although the plot is attenuated at times, it is made up for the costumes,
performances and great songs. At the end of the show. as George slips
out of drugs and into Hare Krishna, the whole theatre is on its feetfor
several rousing choruses of Karma Chameleon. Get yourselves along to the
party and join in.
