Why? Well, you might win a weekend for two in Paris, for a start... but
there are other reasons, too.
Recently, one of Pos Nation's staff went to a major non-pharmaceutical
company to suggest it might look good if they put a little bit of sponsorship
our way. For what was, for them, small change, they could support the
most widely-read HIV publication in the UK and look 'socially responsible'
into the bargain. In return, you the readers, might buy a few more of
their wingdings.
All went well till we told them we were a freebie. "Then how do you
know how many people really read you or value you?" asked the sceptical
marketing manager.
Well, we have a strong feeling you do. More so than ever.
A few indicators. In the last six months the number of letters you send
us has so increased that we can only print half of the ones we get (sorry
if, this month, your letter didn't appear). Furthermore, the letters have
been getting almost embarrassing in their praise. You appear to love us.
(You love each other too, if the ever-increasing number of our small ads
is anything to go by).
But we now operate in a very different HIV sector than before. These days
many positive people only go to their clinic three times a year. Fewer
of you are gay men, so you don't pick your copy of PN up in a bar. Not
all of you are in a position to have it delivered, free, to your home.
So we are seeking to update our distribution so that everyone who wants
