The government is trying to get Section 60 past us at a time when the public trusts doctors less than ever before. The atmosphere has already got so bad that parents are quite simply refusing to believe what any health expert, no matter how qualified or paternal, tells them about the MMR vaccine.
This will have obvious implications for GUM and HIV services. HIV patients are already reluctant to go to their GPs, because they fear their status being given - or sold - to insurers (believe us, this already happens). Many asylum seekers won't even go to HIV clinics because they think their details will pass straight to the Home Office.
Section 60 is a measure that threatens to reverse this country's relatively good record on containing HIV. We will be campaigning against it vigorously. We suggest you do too.
