Benzoin oil is great for those of you who lay awake worrying, and bergamot is ideal for anyone feeling low or depressed.
For serious insomniacs, try clary sage (which must NOT be used with alcohol as it can cause nightmares), and marjoram is lovely for anyone feeling in need of warmth and comforting.
Use essential oils in your evening bath (6-8 drops) or in an oil burner (6-8 drops in water). The other way to enjoy them is to make a massage oil or body cream (3-5 drops in 2 teaspoons of grapeseed oil or unscented body cream). Or add a few drops to a tissue by your pillow. Lavender oil works a treat this way.
Oils can be used on their own or in combinations of two-three different oils. Not everyone likes the same oils, so experiment and find ones that suit you. If you're pregnant some oils, such as clary sage, must not be used. If unsure, ask a qualified practitioner.
