his April, the London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival will celebrate its sixteenth year. The festival opens on 3 April at the Odeon West End and runs for two weeks at the South Bank's National Film Theatre until the closing night special performance on 17 April, again at the Odeon.
The opening and closing films are bound to attract attention. Brian Cox gives a splendid performance in 'L.I.E.' the much-touted debut opener by Michael Cuesta, which tells a 'Rites

L.I.E.

of Passage'-type tale about the relationship between two young boys growing up and an older gay man (Cox).
Courtney Love, Lili Taylor and a course in computers bring to life the closing escapade, 'Julie Johnson', which promises more lesbian sex than Sex and The City. The festival tours a record 39 towns and cities across the UK and Ireland for the rest of the summer months.
Festival organiser Stewart Turnbull explains why this year the festival is particularly
