Channel 4 TV soap 'Hollyoaks' tackles the problem of young people contracting sexually transmitted infections (STIs) this month. The storyline, to be transmitted from 15 April, centres on college student Becca (played by actress Ali Bastian - pictured) who visits her doctor complaining of flu-like symptoms, but is horrified to discover she has contracted gonorrhoea. The story comes as the British Medical Association called on TV shows for young people to reflect the true nature of a huge rise in STIs among young people in the UK. |
