Two friends and fellow workers remember a man who gave boundless energy and commitment to both The Globe Centre and to his work with young offenders

John Mclean Fox writes: "Martyn was a person of great courage, and much loved and respected by his friends. I first met him in 1994 when

he started as a volunteer at The Globe Centre, shortly after me. He made a great impression on us, both from his knowledge and experience of living with HIV and also from his pragmatic and positive suggestions regarding the organisation of a charity. He had previously worked in another charity and carried this experience with him to the Globe. Martyn was subsequently appointed Director of The Globe Centre when Hong Tan resigned in 1995, and he held this post until the end of 1996.
"Sadly his own health and that of his partner, Colin Miller, had by then deteriorated to a point at which he felt that he should no longer continue. During his time as Director, though, Martyn devoted a great deal of energy to the many tasks involved, particularly fund raising, where he was notably successful; a highlight was the visit by Elton John and Elizabeth Hurley, both faithful supporters. He lost his partner Colin some two years ago; I last saw Martyn at CARA's Commemoration for World Aids Day at St Martin in the Fields last December. It was a fitting venue - Martyn seemed

somewhat bereft, but there was still the old sparkle in his eyes. May he rest in peace and rise in glory."
