years of TERRENCE HIGGINS TRUST
positive nation

say to a mother:'We're going to test you, but if you're positive we're going to let your baby become positive'.
"As an organisation, THT has to be big enough to campaign nationally and be listened to, but also small enough to address the different needs of different communities. THT is doing a lot of things extremely well but it does wrestle with its identity. A lot of gay men think that THT is moving too far towards the Africans, but a lot of Africans think it hasn't moved far enough and is still a middle-class gay organisation. These tensions are not new, but we have to tread a path that is inclusive and not tokenistic.
"I think THT will certainly survive to be 40. We all hope to be out of jobs because the epidemic will be under control. But until society wakes up and addresses the issues of the marginalised and disadvantaged it will not go away. The sticking plaster approach simply doesn't work."
