is the single most useful thing to our readers, and many people act on
it, we must ensure that it's always easy to understand. We intend to provide
more basic info on HIV and treatments.
It isn't just anti-HIV treatments that people need to know about; several
readers referred to treatments like New-fill for facial wasting. A higher
percentage (one quarter) of HIV negative men found the treatment language
"sometimes difficult", and this may again provide indirect evidence
that we are read by HIV negative gay men who are using us as their only
source of HIV info.
There are of course other sources of treatment information. Readers also
cite Aids Treatment Update, +ve and the i-Base publications.
What does this imply for Positive Nation's future development?
Well, we will redouble our efforts to reach and respond to all HIV positive
people in the UK. At least a third of the cumulative total of people living
with HIV in this country is heterosexual, of which the majority are black
Africans. We know from other surveys that this group is less likely than
other HIV positive people to be open about their status to anyone other
than their doctors, or to use community HIV services. So we intend to
redouble our efforts to appeal to, and access these often very isolated
people.
We don't reach enough young people. It's notoriously difficult to interest
young people in things like sexual health, but we do need to draw in younger
