The high ground of activism

I am appalled at Julie Davis' suggestion (PN June) that American gay men only became involved in Aids activism because their 'career paths had been derailed by Aids'. As if to suggest that the possible loss of their life was not enough! If she wants to claim the high ground on activism - fine. Just don't fail to acknowledge those that have gone before.

Get travel insurance
We were concerned that the recent 'Holidays can be fun' article (PN May) questioned whether overseas travellers need holiday insurance, because many countries have reciprocal health agreements with the UK.
The level of emergency medical cover available to UK residents in countries round the world varies greatly. There are well over 100 countries with which the UK has no agreement whatever. Even where we have an agreement, the arrangements may only cover a percentage of the expenses incurred. Most importantly, the cost of bringing a person back to the UK is never covered under reciprocal arrangements, and no agreement will cover you for the cancellation of a holiday due to illness.
