Vaccines
The holy grail of AIDS prevention remains a vaccine. The first Phase III
HIV vaccine trials are currently underway in North America, Europe and
Thailand (see page 40). 2010 is a reasonable estimate for the arrival
of a vaccine. But waiting till then isn't soon enough, argued Helene Gayle,
concluding: "The world has the capacity to dramatically alter the
course of this epidemic with what we know works now."
