PLENTY of BOTTLE

The latest fashion item to join Bond Street's retailer, Mulberry, is a handbag made from recycled Ugandan bottletops adorning Mulberry's famous Congo leather. The inspiration for the bottle bag came from the young son, Cameron, of Mulberry owner Roger Saul. Cameron got excited about the idea of recycled bottletops - Fanta, Bells Lager, Coca Cola - when he was studying in Uganda. The bottles and their tops always looked cool. The Mulberry Bottletop handbag retails at £99 and there's a t-shirt featuring the bag design for sale at £24.99.

bottletop bags

At a publicity event to launch the bags last month, celebrities present included photographer David Bailey, Atomic Kitten's Jenny Frost, Bob Geldof, and All Saints' Melanie Blatt.
Mulberry has joined forces with ActionAid and Students Partnership Worldwide and proceeds from the sales will be split equally between both organisations for Aids awareness work in Uganda and Kenya. Mulberry aims to raise £250,000 from sales of the bag, which is being retailed through their shop outlets across the world. At the celebrity launch, 300 bottletop bags were sold and £45,000 has been raised so far. Listen out for further Mulberry fundraising events leading up to World Aids Day.
