Syphilis cases triple in Scotland

Syphilis and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are increasing in Scotland and the rest of the UK, according to latest figures. Syphilis rates in western Scotland have tripled since 1999 and in England the number of people infected doubled between 1998 and 2000.
No condoms in Welsh schools
The Welsh Assembly has rejected moves to allow the distribution of free condoms in schools. Instead they say they will leave it up to individual school governors.
Midlands HIV testing campaign
People are being encouraged to take HIV tests after a rise in infections in the East Midlands. Local health workers are advising people to be tested and are also calling for more clinics in the region. The situation is said to be particularly bad in the Mansfield area and is linked to unprotected heterosexual sex.

Most people living with HIV in Britain cope reasonably well with day-to-day life, says a new survey. 'What do you need' - a study of over 1,800 people in the UK - found that most people were 'fairly' or 'very' happy with their ability to cope. Problem areas that often did trouble them included sex and relationships, anxiety and depression, sleep, and employment issues.
