enjoying being here right now.
There are many ways to practice this focus on the present - listening
to our breathing or to nature, gazing at a picture or a flower, focusing
on our posture or a mantra. All these develop our ability to enjoy this
moment and not allow fear to distract us.
Releasing the fear from our hearts
Fear sucks out our passion for life, our joy of life, our love of life,
and ultimately our will to live. It drains us of loving energy, leaving
us exhausted, depressed, anxious, and 'fear-full'. Restoring this love
to our hearts and souls is vital for our immunity.
Laughter is a potent antidote to fear, and an immune stimulant. A man
called Norman Cousins famously recovered from cancer by laughing his way
back to health.
Smiling, even if at first faked, will slowly melt away fear, restoring
a sense of peace and happiness again.
Love is by far the greatest cure for the paralysis of fear. Being held
in the loving arms of a partner, friend or parent is the ultimate immune
booster.
Identifying the early warning signs of fear in our breathing, posture,
thoughts and feelings is as vital as remembering to take our medication.
Fear and HIV are potent immunosuppressive partners. Drugs alone cannot
defeat this deadly cocktail. Fear, like HIV, slowly immunosuppresses us.
But, like HIV, it can be controlled by a combination of love in our hearts,
peace in our minds, trust in our body, and faith in our soul.
