Juan Goytisolo

One of Spain's greatest living writers (some say in the world), Juan Goytisolo, will read from his new novel in the Royal Festival Hall's Voice Box on Tuesday 8 October. Goytisolo was a bitter opponent of the Franco regime and as a result, his early novels were banned in Spain. Most of his books are set in urban Catalonia. "Shades of Joe Orton and Umberto Eco with the humour of Father Ted," hail his critics.
His latest offering, A Cock-Eyed Comedy, is a wicked satire of the Catholic Church. Goytisolo's experimental and misanthropic style this time cuts through international spiritual and sexual shenanigans. A host of historical characters, including Roland Barthes, Jean Genet and writer
