PART FIVE: FOOD AND MEDICINE

recolonisation programme, ideal after any antibiotic therapy or food poisoning).

Cut down on toxins and 'quick fixes'
Our body relies on our liver to protect us from the toxic side effects of the 'medicines' we swallow whether they are AZT or alcohol. The more overloaded it is with the toxins we've swallowed, the greater the risk of side effects. We can help our liver by reducing the additional toxic burden from things like alcohol, additives, pesticides, transfats, or recreational drugs. We do this by ensuring it has enough vitamins and minerals to catalyse detoxification.
Food is a great comforter when we're feeling down, anxious or irritable. Something sweet can lift our spirits, something fatty can soak up our frustrations, and something alcoholic can help us escape. So a spicy pizza with a bottle of wine and a tub of ice cream is a great way to chill out and feel good. Unfortunately this 'combination therapy' can make our body feel lousy!
Anything we swallow can be a medicine or a toxin, including food. Our body needs food as a medicine to help it heal, grow and fight infection. Combination therapy alone is not enough to keep us healthy. We need to find food that is not toxic to our body, fits our lifestyle, and is convenient.
Finding the right food for our body can help it resist HIV, and give us enough energy to fight back.
