George Clooney'Tis that shady time of year again. Whether you want some because you must have the model in the advert - yes George Clooney in his Police pair is mine thank you - or you genuinely need to shade your eyes from the sharp sunny glare of summer, the choice is yours.

Silhouettes
Silhouettes

Sunglasses, in every imaginable shape, colour and price, are here after all to protect us. Oh, and to make us look and feel supercool.

Favourites like Calvin Klein continue to persuade the designer tag sun-shysters to part with around £100. Armani, D&G, and Gucci too. This season they all seem to stick to the ever-popular 'square' formula, although Vivienne Westwood adds a 50s feel with her rounded-frame classic tortoiseshells and Ted Baker gets really streamline in narrow blue/smoke. A little cheaper down the glassy path, DKNY sports the name and the most classic mafia black fit for next to £60.

If you want high street prices (under £20), Next has polarised and drop-downs in semi-rimless as well as full frame. Top Man/Shop is worth a gander for shiny and bright shades, or Boots. Try your market stall at the weekend for cheaper still (like a fiver).

Most exclusive: A pair of gold mirror Silhouettes (£120) or Ray-Bans (from £75). For sporty spice chase a pair of Nike's Interchange two-in-ones (£89).

Otherwise stay out of the sun.

LIVING FOODS FOR RADIANT HEALTH

Living FoodsThis Authentic Guide to Using Fresh and Raw Foods will tell you all sorts of useful things like how to grow indoor salad greens, how to improve your composting, what's more suitable to prepare or preserve - juicing, blending, fermenting or hydrating? - or how to get the best from wheatgrass, nuts and seeds. The book also guides you through your digestive system, colon care and naturopathic routines as well as confronts more controversial issues like healing your body with detox and fasting. The author describes living foods as "the most nutrition-packed of all raw plant foods. Sprouted seeds, juices, fruit, veg, herbs, salad leaves, and simple ferments. And of course wheatgrass juice." (She also runs courses on the subject.) There's a wholesome section on recipes too. Fancy a Potassium Broth anyone?

NATURE IS TOP

Organic JuiceImmune DefenceAt the seventh Natural Products Europe show in April, 6,000 happy customers streamed through the health-laden aisles enjoying the displays at London's Olympia stadium from over 400 exhibitors. With the addition of the Organic Products show this year, the two-day exhibition became the only organic trade event in the country.

It wasn't just the organic foods, juices, wines and oils that stole the show. White tea, spirulina, vitamins, and skin creams also grabbed lots of attention. As did Solgar's central stand.

Goat's Milk SoapDr Gillian McKeith's Organic Juice Energy won the Best New Food Product. This organic juice contains more than 74 ionic minerals in pure organic fruit juices (including spirulina the blue-green algae superfood) and was also voted Britain's Best Health Drink in the Evening Standard. Dr McKeith lifestyle range of foods includes Living Food Immune Defence capsules with broccoli seeds.

White TeaCanus Goats Milk Body Butter won the Best New Non-Food Product and the Best VMS (Vitamin-Mineral supplement) winner was Optima's Activjuice for Joints (with lemon juice). At the awards ceremony, chairman Craig Sams said, "This is an industry doing good and doing well".

Incidentally, white tea is a rare highly-prized variety of green tea found only in China and is valued for containing the highest antixoidants of any tea.

Most products are available at good health food stores like Fresh and Wild, Holland & Barrett and the Nutri Centre. Visit: www.health-store.co.uk for Dr McKeith's range.

ALL-is-ONE

TrilogyYet another health supplement, but the nice thing about Trilogy Healthy Resistance is you get all your nutrients in one tablet. So, if you drink green tea, take Vit C and garlic, you can now have it all in one go, with a dash of elderberry (for antioxidant boost) thrown in for good measure. Dr Sarah Brewer's new range also offers Vitamins & Minerals one-a-day and a women's supplement Evening Primrose Oil.

Healthy Resistance £9.99 for 28 tablets. From Boots.
