Marine plant extracts infuse the new Nivea
for Men range of face care products.
The natural astringent properties of these help soak up the common problem
of excess oil that some men suffer from. These Oil Control products include
a shaving gel, moisturiser and soap-free face wash. Economically priced, genuinely
non-greasy, they give you a real zing when they hit your skin.
Nivea for Men Oil Control: Face Wash £4.79,
Moisturiser £6.65, Shaving Gel £3.35. Nivea for Men Mild After-Shave
Balm £5.55.
We
all know men have BIG hair days. But how and why? With gels, sprays, fudges,
mattes, creams, putties, waxes, and sculptures, how else? To master the art
of the perfectly scrunched tousle-top, the spikiest wedge, the glistening
bristlebum, or even the mullet, there’s a binload of help to hand. For
the firm choice, a finger of the toughest Fudge Hair Shaper putty is best (but beware it can
set like concrete). Black & White is the obvious choice of the waxes for
short hair. Mess it up, slick it down or add body by smoothing on the gorgeous-smelling
ICE hair molder cream or a tiny tot of Zirh’s
Hold sculpting hair gel.
Sprays can keep sticky fingers at bay and Joico’s
Conversion TS is worth
a squirt. Mohicans of course require soap and nothing less.
Ice Molder £7.95; Zirh’s Hold £14;
Fudge Hair Shaper (hold factor 2) £9.95; Joico’s Conversion Texture
Spray £9.95; Black & White pomade £4.25.

What’s in a negative ion? For some, a genuine lift of the spirits and an end to depression.
High concentrations of negative ions are found in the most invigorating outdoor places - evergreen forests, around waterfalls, on beaches with crashing surf, or anywhere after thunderstorms. The freshest outdoor air has high concentrations of negative ions (specifically, oxygen molecules with an extra electron attached) and relatively few positive ions (oxygen with an electron stripped away) which are the ones that congregate in stale indoor places.
If you want the boost of outdoor air indoors, this is where an ioniser comes in.

Insomnia, night sweats, depression, migraines, blocked sinuses. These are just some of the problems that satisfied customers say ionisers have alleviated. How much you need to spend on an ioniser depends on its use. You can get a relatively cheap compact version like the Astrid Bedroom Ioniser (£33.99) or Boots Air Ioniser (£28). Check out the Altura home page for the fun FeelGood Fan/Ioniser (£30). For larger room space in the office or elsewhere, there are more powerful models available (Boots and Astrid do them too). Personal ionisers can be used at night by your bed, in your car, or as hand luggage. The manufacturer, Elanra, claims it has the only medically-designed therapeutic ioniser that produces small negative ions which you can actually ingest directly into your lungs and bloodstream. (But these are costly, the Elanra MK11 breezes in at £395 and even the portable version is £245). Elanra also warns against some of the ‘air-cleaner’ type ionisers that give off medium and large ions that aren’t easily ingested and produce harmful ozone.

A recent Boots survey discovered that the most popular remedies for colds
include eating oranges and taking vitamin C, zinc supplements, or echinacea.
Some brave souls swear by chewing on garlic while others say that the best
course of action is to do nothing and let it pass.
The richest source of vitamin C reputedly comes from the Amazon forest’s Camu Camu berries and these are now on the market from Xnergy in Pure Radiance C capsules (expensive though). Each capsule contains 120 mg of vitamin C; that’s 200 per cent of the Recommended Daily Intake for Vitamin C.
If you already have the dreaded lurgi, GSK has come up with a handy all-in-one
pack of Day and Night Nurse capsules. It is indicated on the packet which
capsules you take when; the night-time ones are likely to make you drowsier,
so remember to take them at the right time. The Boots Steam Inhaler is another
excellent way of clearing the tubes if you are bunged up and it’s great
value.
Pure Radiance C £24.95 for 90 capsules www.xynergy.co.uk Day and Night Nurse Capsules Boots and other chemists £4.49. Boots steam inhaler, £6.60.
