The African HIV Policy Network recently hosted their first awards ceremony, honouring those working to raise awareness and destigmatize HIV in the African community.
AHPN’s Make A Difference awards, held at Regents College, London, on 27 March 2008 thanked Stephen Timms, MP for East Ham, for his work with the Newham HIV programme as well as PN’s own Thandi Haruperi for her positive leadership.

Waverley Care was rewarded for their work in Empowering African Communities in parts of Scotland and Charles Kyazze received an award in recognition of his volunteer work for several charities, including Uganda AIDS Action Fund (UAAF), African Community Involvement Association (ACIA), African Families Support Services (AFSS) and South London African Women (SLAWO).
Mr Timms said of AHPN: “I am a great supporter of the work that African HIV Policy Network carries out and I commend your organisation for all your invaluable contributions and achievements in the area of HIV and Africa.”
AHPN is currently in its 10th year, working to help those with HIV with everyday needs, such as income and housing.
