British man gets prison in Sweden for HIV transmission
A British man has been jailed for 14 years in Sweden after being convicted of infecting two under- age girls
with HIV.
Thirty two-year Christer Aggett, who grew up in Sweden, was alleged to have met the girls through an internet chatroom. He admitted a charge of sexual assault but denied having sex with the girls.
He was arrested after his landlord found HIV medications and pictures of him performing sex acts with young girls.
Aggett was also ordered to pay compensation of £213,000 to 16 girls and police say he was in contact with at least 130 young women on the internet and are trying to track them down.
Sweden has developed harsh laws for HIV transmission over 25 years of the epidemic. In the early years people positive diagnosed faced compulsory detention and in recent years there have been a number of prosecutions for HIV transmission and long prison sentences handed down.
