Crusaid: Make sure you play your part in World Aids Day

2007 has been a tough year and serves to remind us that HIV in the UK does not enjoy the same support from government as other long term critical illnesses. HIV is treated differently across the UK yet the impact on the individual is the same. As we prepare to release our first report on Poverty and HIV in Scotland for World AIDS Day 2008, we are reminded that despite a different approach taken by the Scottish Government, people living with HIV in Scotland are as likely to experience HIV related poverty as anywhere else in the UK or across the world, for that matter.
At Crusaid we believe that we should not use our funding to replace government funds. We seek out innovative ways to improve HIV services and the quality of life of people living with HIV whilst showing government that spending more on HIV services, and making them more accessible, is the right thing to do.
That is why in 2008 we will be introducing new funding programmes through the Crusaid Hardship Fund, providing more avenues of support to help people living with HIV out of poverty permanently. We will use evidence from this new work to make the case for better services to government.
As always we will be working
with other HIV organisations to
deliver these programmes as we believe that together we can make a difference.
HIV in the UK has fallen off the political agenda. So play your part
this world AIDS Day: think, talk, act, give to make your voice heard!

part.
