Tony De Vit
Hookd: A Tony De Vit tribute party
On Saturday night/ Sunday morning 27th July 2008 a tribute party to Tony De Vit will take place in Vauxhall with all profits going to the charities Freshwinds and The Albert Kennedy Trust. Hard House DJs including Ian M, Andy Farley, Karim, Don Grant, TJ and Mark Jewell will tantalise with stomping beats, paying homage to Tony in the main room at London’s fantastic ‘Arches’ venue, featuring a live PA
by SJ.
Room 2 will host upfront tunes from Mark Westhenry, Brent Nicholls, Jo Public and Faye Lanson. Room 3 will showcase the soulful sounds of Fat Tony, Simon Wallis, Lee Harris and
Phil Hewson.
Hook’d is a night dedicated to the genius that was Tony De Vit who died 10 years ago
this July.
Hard House has all but disappeared from the Gay scene, but times have changed and so have attitudes towards clubbing.
Many have missed the tougher sounds absent from clubs in the last decade or so and there is a whole generation of new clubbers who have never experienced the excitement of dancing to hard house all together in a fresh environment.
Hook’d will amalgamate these classic and upfront musical styles in a fresh mix, set in a fantastic club space with a state of the art sound and light system, bringing lovers of clubbing together for one phenomenal party.
Tony de Vit began DJ’ing aged 17 at local pubs in his home town of Kidderminster and later became an international success.
Tony De Vit was HIV+ and unfortunately passed away on July 2 1998 from bronchial pneumonia and bone-marrow failure.
Organiser Paul Beauchamp said, “I am hoping to put on this night to do Tony’s memory proud and give to those deserving people a chance to have what so many of us take for granted, please help by turning up and having fun but also helping a great cause.”
A number of events have been put on in Tony’s memory over the last 10 years from which proceeds have gone to a charity selected by his family called Freshwinds which has been offering care and support without charge, to adults and children living with life limiting illnesses, as well as individuals with socially excluded backgrounds. The charity manages a wide range of projects including the provision of integrated complementary therapy, advocacy, employment, debt counselling and community based initiatives in HIV, substance misuse and crime. I felt that as this is a London based event, that it was fitting to also give profits from this event to a London charity called The Albert Kennedy Trust, who offer care and support for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people who are homeless, uneducated about HIV and trying to make a start in life.
