Royal Vauxhall Tavern Present GMFA with Cheque for World AIDS Day Fundraiser

Gay men are still the group most affected by HIV in the UK. The campaigns and resources that GMFA produce to support gay men living with HIV, such as the website for positive gay men, get no Government funding and so the charity depends on the support of the community to continue with this work. GMFA are hugely grateful and want to thank the RVT for their support. The Royal Vauxhall Tavern raised over £7,000 for GMFA this World AIDS Day.

The cheque was presented to GMFA’s community fundraising manager, Tim Molloy, by the one and only Dame Edna Experience.

Matthew Hodson, Head of Programmes for GMFA commented: “Once again I am thrilled, impressed and touched by the generosity of the staff and customers at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern. The RVT is a gay institution, which inspires fierce loyalty amongst its many devoted customers. There is a real sense of being part of a community when you go to the Vauxhall - and the support that the venue returns to the gay community, and to the local community, is inspirational.”

“GMFA is also very much part of the community. All of our work is devoted to improving the health of gay men. We rely on the talent, dedication and experience of our volunteers to create our campaigns, lead our workshops and operate our websites. Much of the work that we do receives no government funding, including all of the work that we do for HIV positive gay men. We rely on support from gay men to continue this much needed work. The efforts that everyone at the RVT made this World AIDS Day was exceptional and I am extremely proud that GMFA and the RVT have built such a strong relationship.”
