Royal Vauxhall Tavern Present GMFA with Cheque for World AIDS Day Fundraiser
Gay men are still the group most affected by HIV in the UK. The campaigns and resources that GMFA produce to support gay men living with HIV, such as the website for positive gay men, get no Government funding and so the charity depends on the support of the community to continue with this work. GMFA are hugely grateful and want to thank the RVT for their support. The Royal Vauxhall Tavern raised over £7,000 for GMFA this World AIDS Day.

Natasha Richardson – RIP
We were very sad to hear of the tragic death of Natasha Richardson. Natasha was an NAT Ambassador from 1987 until 2009. As she lived in the US full time in recent years, there were limitations as to what she could do in the UK, but she continued to be an advocate on HIV especially in the US, and she spoke very openly about her personal experiences of HIV. Her father, the British film director Tony Richardson, died of AIDS-related causes in 1991.

Positively Women - Beyond Viral Load and CD4 Count: for Women Living with HIV
In March Positively Women held an event called Beyond Viral Load and CD4 Count: Women Living with HIV. The event launched the new campaign to raise awareness of the need for PEER SUPPORT for women living with HIV amongst NHS commissioners. Both the event and campaign are supported by Abbott Laboratories.

New campaign highlights HIV risks to Black men who ‘top’ without condoms.
Big Up, the Black gay men’s project at GMFA, has launched a new advertising campaign focussing on the risk of HIV for Black gay men who are insertive during unprotected anal sex. The campaign follows research showing Black gay men are less likely to use condoms when they are the ‘top’ than guys from other ethnic groups.

Step out for change! Join Crusaid’s Walk for Life 2009

Tainted Blood Campaign update.
On 23rd February Lord Archer of Sandwell presented the report of his two year long inquiry into the tragedy of contaminated blood and blood products. In the report he makes several recommendations, including adequate funding for the UK Haemophilia Society, a Statutory Haemophilia Committee that includes patient representation, and proper compensation for victims and their dependants. At last Lord Archer has addressed the issue of recognition for the widows and children along with those still surviving. This compensation, he said, “should be at least at the level previously awarded in Ireland”, nearly ten years ago. So far after thirty one days the Department of health have not responded.

Community support for GMFA on World AIDS Day
GMFA, the gay men’s health charity, were overwhelmed by the level of support they received from supporters this World AIDS Day. More gay venues, organisations and businesses than ever before supported the charity this year through a variety of different fundraising events and activities, which look set to have raised almost £20,000 for the charity.

Terrence Higgins Trust launches Let’s Get Tested - a new film competition for
Terrence Higgins Trust (THT), in partnership with Abbott, has launched an exciting new competition called Let’s Get Tested. The competition, which closes on February 28th, aims to highlight the importance of sexual health by asking young people aged 15 – 25 to make a short film about getting regularly tested for HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

Skins favourite, Nick Hoult, backs the launch of new ethical condom range ‘one
Actor, Nick Hoult, famous for his roles in the E4 show Skins and the film About a Boy, helped launch a brand new line of next generation ethical condoms - the first of its kind in the UK. Nick has joined forces with Global Ethics, the organisation behind the ethical water brand, One water, to launch the One condom range. All profits that Global Ethics make from the condom sales will go towards raising awareness of HIV and AIDS and the funding of testing in rural communities in Africa.

Sidaction is a collective of researchers, healthcare professionals, and humanitarian associations in France involved in HIV causes, is hosting two week exhibition of Art in Boulogne-sur-Mer, France, from 14th to 28th of March and appeals for pieces of Art from both professional and amateur artists.
